Solveigs song

Postby nbmike on Wed Aug 13, 2008 9:44 pm

I've finally been to do some work on my engine. I stripped enough off my engine to be able to fit the replacement camshaft. Then I went to where the 'Belgian' engine is stored and stripped it down enough to get the camshaft out. Its nice to finally hold a whole, complete camshaft in my hands. I still have to manufacture a pushrod that goes right through the middle of the camshaft because the old one is a bit mangled but that shouldn't be too much of a problem - as long as I can find out exactly how long it should be! Then carefully rebuild the engine, checking and double-checking as I go.
At least this episode has taught me a lot more about my Petter engine and how it was put together. I am also in contact with an ex-employee of Petters who has supplied me with lots of information, service schedules and suchlike.
I'll keep you posted about my engine build.

Good luck Mike. If you manufacture a replacement push rod, will you get it case hardened?

I'll take advice from the Petter man on that but I don't think it needs it. Its just the push rod that actuates the governor for the fuel racks not the one for the valves so there aren't any great pressures or stresses I think.
