Changes to my boat.........

Postby Jer & The Art on Fri Jun 27, 2008 11:32 am

Alternative title "Have Welder Must Make Things"

Not being able to weld to the obvious standard of Mike I freely admit I am of the "Load it on then grind it back" school. However I recently acquired an Oxford oil cooled beasty and discovered that whereas the old addage that a poor workman blames his tools holds true, it certainly helps to have a substantial tool in the first place (ooh errr missus!)

So not needing to hear for myself that fuel robberies are being reported nearer and nearer I decided the time to fashion something more secure was upon me.
After all even pre-current prices and ignoring the approaching switch from red to derv at the end of the year I was still carting more than a hundred of our English quids worth of fuel oil around with nowt but a screw topped cap to fool the scrotes.

Hence the orange painted steel strap held in place by a padlock............

Now before anybody wishes to point out to me that a mere mooring pin would force that out of the way or break the padlock. Yes I know, however it serves two purposes: -
1. It allows to me sleep at night knowing that at least I have done something.
2. No other boat on our mooring has any form of deterrent therefore are easier and quicker pickings than mine.

Realising that the average "scrote" is both lazy and cowardly I learnt a while ago it's useful to employ a bit of psychology when wanting to confuse them.

I went through a series of break-ins about ten years ago, so when I was at home I was worried about the boat and when on the boat I was worrying about home, not a good situation.
Two professionally made signs semed to stop it all in its tracks though.
One on the doors of the boat explaining that the interior of the boat was booby trapped with spring loaded razor wire which not only would hurt like hell but provide a blood sample for DNA testing.
Another in my house window confirmed that I was licensed by The Home Office to keep poisonous spiders and had dedicated two rooms to allow them to roam free. For poison exposures call 1-800-222-1222 during office hours.
The only inconvenience to me was I had to also provide an external mail box as the GPO refused to allow their staff to open the letter box, and quite right too I say.

Edited to correct the stupidest of spelling errors
