Boat fitting.

Postby nbmike on Tue Aug 19, 2008 9:24 pm

Well I had planned to spend a day working at the boat today but got stuck on a very old, very poorly LPG boiler instead. I then had to drive to Harrow to get a spare part for it and didn't even get to the boat until nearly 4 o'clock. I picked up some more varnish on the way and put a second coat on the underside and edges of my plywood floorboards. The heavens opened while I was at the boat.
I still have to get my mate Jim to take me down to the London Underground maintenance yard at Ruislip Gardens where he tells me I can help myself to offcuts of railway track. I think about another ton should do it. Then I can fix the boards down finally.
I can then start to clean up all the welds in the main cabin, remove odd bits of rust and then red oxide it before the sprayfoam can be applied. I also have to cut the holes for the mushroom vents, but before I can cut the holes I really must do a bit of work to my plasma cutter. I have air leaks in the supply hose. It wasn't a problem when I was building the boat as my friend Andy had a huge compressor that could cope with the air loss. But at the moment I only have a dinky compressor from Aldi. I'm not even sure it can supply enough compressed air without any leaks in the hose but it will surely be better when its repaired.
